Lazlo Bleker is focused on improving the use of computational resources in architectural and structural design. Although these resources are widely used for structural analysis, their application in the conceptual design phase is limited. Lazlo's research aims to develop a computational design framework that supports human-machine collaboration in conceptual structural design. His work involves leveraging graph neural networks (GNNs) to explore analogies between structural models and graphs, and using reinforcement learning (RL) to address the analogy between the conceptual design process and the Markov decision process (MDP). Over the course of his doctorate, Lazlo will develop three independent projects: applying GNNs to graph-based structural models, creating a human-machine collaborative design process based on structural grammar and RL, and employing natural language processing for conceptual structural design. The goal is to integrate these projects into a single computational workflow to assist architects and engineers during the conceptual design phase.
